Amelia’s second trip to the lake
We went to see Grandpa and Bebe; and Jon, Sarah, Hannah, & Zoe at the lake for Memorial Day weekend. Amelia AND Cadbury get an A+ for car travel, especially on I95, this weekend. It was such a pleasure to take them for a visit.
Of course there is a food update. The good news is that Amelia’s appetite returned and she apparently loves all foods with gusto once again (thank goodness!):

She ate almost a whole slice of rye bread with cream cheese.

Hannah fed her quite a bit of her grilled cheese sandwich, too.
Here is Amelia enjoying the lake water lapping at her legs:

She also enjoyed being dunked to the waist, up and down, and up and down, and being swished around by mom-photographer, so you don’t get to see that.
Bebe helped her get warm:

After so much fun, some relaxation in the hammock is required:

…with daddy…

…and with mom and cousin Hannah, age 3, who insisted that Amelia sit on top of her stomach!
We went for a ride on the boat…gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous day. Amelia enjoyed the breeze and then took a nap.

Some moments in the life of AVJ:
Amelia watched as the garden got planted this weekend.

The Longest Bath Ever

A beautiful hand-me-down outfit…complete with DOO RAG!!!

Things got so crazy in the Jumperoo that a sock came off!

In fact, the other came off after I took the picture. She is going to love a pogo stick.
The week in pictures
Whoa, we went a week without any updates. Here’s what we know (or suspect):
We think the eyes are staying blue:

We think she’s going to have a lot of hair:

And we think she will grow to like potatoes.

The potatoes were an All-Daddy production. While Momma and baby were at Molly’s baby shower, I made up a big batch of baby-food-potatoes. Basically mashers, but just the spuds.

We went to Black Hills Park for our picnic. We had some sandwiches and Amelia had pears. Took a walk, swang in the bucket swing, enjoyed the weather, a full afternoon. Amelia fell asleep as soon as we got in the car, and Ethan joined her soon after we got home. I think I will go check out the backs of my eyelids for a few minutes, too.
No comments8:11 am on Mother’s Day!
We heard our first “Ma”! No kidding. Just one and it didn’t mean anything, but she made the sound while she was between bites of banana & yogurt. Ethan and I high-fived!

Sunny, mid 70s, breezy, and we’re going on a picnic with our beautiful girl. It should be a perfect day. Happy Mother’s Day to all you Mamas.
1 commentOK, I know you miss pictures.

Amelia is months from crawling but she did hold herself on her hands and knees for about 3 seconds this morning, twice.
We’re getting a bunch of new insulation installed upstairs, they’re almost done. Step 1 of keeping Amelia cool at night this summer. Thank you to everyone who’s given us your used baby stuff…so we have money for a new airconditioner/furnace and insulation!
1 commentA Date with Mom & Dad
Amelia had her first dinner in a restaurant tonight. We went to the Broadway Diner in Rockville. We both knew what we wanted before we go there and ordered right away to keep things moving. She was so good! She wasn’t interested in eating- there was so much to see and touch. She probably swallowed some pieces of placemat (fiber), along with her puffs and a little water. We made up for it when we got home.
A milestone!
What an afternoon!
Wow, did Amelia learn some things today.
1. We sat out on the front lawn with Laura & Elizabeth. Elizabeth is 6 weeks older (much more wise) and taught Amelia to say “Ahyayaya”. She won’t stop. We’re a little worried about her calming down to go to bed sometime tonight.
2. She can now pull herself to sitting up from laying down! If we all had her abs (especially new moms who are still a bit soft), we’d all have flat tummies.
3. She got dirty for the first time!

A small part of that is her asparagus lunch, a larger part is lawn.
She is so wonderful.
Don’t make that face, it’ll stick!

Amelia makes a funny face after her first bite of food, any food, even if she’s had it many times. It’s not that she dislikes the food, she hasn’t found a food she doesn’t like yet. She just makes this face every time.
I put a piece of cereal in her mouth and caught a picture of her tooth today!
Here’s a blowup:

The tiny bulge to the left is where her second tooth will be soon.
