Halloween

Amelia-the-Ladybug was a big hit! The pediatrician said shower steam and cold air (who woulda thunk?) are good for VIHVB (see below). So we went to the neighborhood gathering…some Halloweeny sights of East Rockville:

She met McGruff!

Here is one of Amelia’s favorite people, her babysitter Rose. Probably the favorite some times. We all LOVE Rose.

Amelia’s trick-or-treat from Rose was a fun-size 3 Musketeers and she loved it!

Chas always has a great display and Amelia was mesmerized by the skeleton behind me.

Jonathan & Hillary’s pumpkin:

Oh my gosh, people leave a whole bowl of candy unattended? She took one mini Baby Ruth.

She loved her Nerds rattles!

And we made the news:

Sick Day

Amelia called in sick today. She was in a crummy mood a lot of the time for the past few days. She is getting two teeth, learning to walk (see below), and she got a Virus In Her Voice Box.
Weird way to describe it, huh? She woke up hoarse and maintained a low voltage cry for a lot of Sunday, especially when coughing. Today we went to the pediatrician who said she has the VIHVB and an ear infection on one side. It messes up her talking, crying, breathing, eating, etc.
On the good side, it is very sweet that she will actually sit on my lap for a long time. She doesn’t really do that anymore. She got really spoiled today with Baby Van Gogh and, yes, a twizzler.

Thanks to everyone in Richmond who was so understanding of her discomfort. I guess we know what was going on now. The poor girl is really braving it out as much as she can.

And then it happened…

We were sitting around on Sunday watching the Redskins/Giants football game. Amelia was standing near the couch and decided she had to check out the red light next to the tv’s power button. And then it happened. She walked half way, paused, (then Ethan gasped “hey, hey, hey” and we realized what was going on) and she kept walking. It was about 12 steps. No hands.
The scene of the Big Event:

On the way to the Flynns on Friday night I told Ethan she was going to walk while we were there because she had a 2 year old and a 5 year old to follow around for 2 days. Saturday night we went to dinner and I took Fussy Amelia outside and all she wanted to do was walk and walk along the wall of Stony Point mall. And Ronan (a friend who came over on Sunday) saw Stella’s first walk too! It was meant to be. She really just decided she could let go, all of the sudden.

Visit to Richmond

We went to Richmond to see some of Ethan’s family and friends.

Amelia used Ethan’s old high chair at Bebe and Grandpa’s house. No straps (gasp!) and she didn’t wiggle too much when she was hungry.

Then we saw the Flynns, including Emma and Stella. Lucky Ethan!

Some fun in the park.

Food update

Aunt Marion & Uncle Warren, this one is for you! Amelia tried her first German Apple Pancake this morning. We’re working on fork technique. If we put the food on the fork it usually gets to her mouth. And she hasn’t poked her eye yet. She’d better not because those are beautiful eyes.

Her babysitter said she thinks Amelia likes everything (maybe except some lentil soup we made last week.) Tonight at our neighbor’s house she had turkey meatloaf, carrot souffle, and mashed potatoes, and liked all of them! Especially when we turned her chair towards their mirror and she could watch herself eat.
The Dagoba lime-macadamia nut-chocolate she tried yesterday wasn’t bad either.

Pumpkins!

Amelia slept a loooong time in the jogging stroller this morning..so much that I came home and got the dogs and kept walking for 25 more minutes. She was really happy at the pumpkin patch.

A baby!

We visited Grant Parsons, just under 3 weeks old in this picture, this weekend. He was the same size as Amelia at birth and that is already hard to remember. Welcome to the world little guy. Amelia is with Grant’s dad, Jason.

Amelia insisted on her outfit, honest. ; )
And you can’t see it but Grant’s onesie says “Super Fly”!

Oh the days when we used this:

To put her to sleep when she was getting her first teeth- or not sleeping in the middle of the night for some unexplicable reason. Now she plays with her stuffed animals in it, and with the sounds and lights.

Bath Update

Amelia’s Grand Aunt Cheri gave her this tub for her birthday. It is the perfect size for her. She likes to slide around in it and she has a hard time getting her face under water, so that is good for us!

Just waiting…

We are just waiting for her to walk. Monday afternoon she took 4 steps at Rose’s house. Wednesday morning she took 4 steps at home. She is going to take off soon…we hope she waits until Saturday!
So here are some birthday toy pictures to tide you over.

Clapping with puzzle pieces:

(This shirt has been on the internet before!)

Looking for the blinking light eyes of her stacking pots:

And dancing with some cool musical rattles:

This isn’t a toy, but a totally mod outfit from our neighbors.

And one food update- we’re working on using a spoon (her great grandmother’s!). She does o.k. if the food sticks inside the bowl of the spoon. I attached some cream cheese english muffin sticky-side down. She ate it, and then made another spoonful for herself in the same way.
