Grannie and Grampy

Grannie’s two weeks with us are over. Grampy came last night and tomorrow they will go home. Do you think anyone else can sit on Grampy’s lap?

Big sister kisses are the best! Sometimes it looks like half of Amelia’s body disappears into the car seat as she kisses Daphne.

They grow up so fast…here is Amelia with Grannie’s lipstick.

Fun tent

We needed a distraction for Amelia this weekend. Grand Aunt Cheri gave this tent to Amelia for Christmas last year. She has played with the tunnel tons of times but we never got the tent set up. She moved in, enjoys visitors, and talking on the phone.

Fun hair

Daphne’s hair sticks up in a mini-mowhawk after her baths.

Grannie Annie is visiting for two weeks and gives Daphne a little work out every day. Here is super baby lifting her head up to look at her Grannie.

She has outgrown preemie clothes- that was fast! She is a string bean- long and thin, but working hard to not be thin.

Baths and fairy princesses

Daphne loves her baths. The nurses at the NICU told me to give her a bath while she’s wrapped up in a blanket and she loves it. She usually sleeps through them. Very different from her big sister, who cried through her first couple months of baths.

The great news is that the hole in Daphne’s heart is closing. It is “tiny” now. Hooray!!

She had her first official pediatrician visit today and if she were full term, she’d be on the growth charts. He charts it by chronological age (6 weeks) but put a dot on the chart for me as if she were born today. She’s 20 inches long and 6.5 pounds today, and was supposed to be due on Saturday.

Amelia got this pretty fairy outfit as a hand me down from Ethan’s coworker’s daughter. And Grand Aunt Cheri brought her the final piece- a fairy head band.

The girls at the park

It’s time for a Daphne picture, and all the ones I took yesterday with her eyes open are blurry… here are Daphne and Amelia taking a break at the park for a snack this morning. We were sitting in the back of a boat. I’m not in the picture because you really don’t want to see the sleepy circles under my eyes! It seems that Daphne likes to be awake in the middle of the night.

A walk.

Today to get out of the house for a while, we went up the street. It is a fairly new thing in Amelia’s doings. “I go see neighbors?”. Yesterday evening she went up the street with me to watch an America’s Got Talent song show by three elementary school aged girls. Today we took a walk. Amelia strapped on her bike helmet and mostly carried/pushed, sometimes scooted, her bike up the street.

We slowly made it most of the way to the top when she saw “STOP Sign!”, one of her current favorite things. Here she is with the one on the other side of the intersection. She even got to touch it.

We stopped for a while as she sat on the curb and took a Saltine break. Life is sweet and slow with an almost 2-year old.

There were two good things about this walk.
She loves to wear her bike helmet. It took a while. This is probably due to age, and seeing the neighbors wearing theirs when they all scoot and ride around the cul-de-sac in the evening.
And I put Daphne in the baby bjorn carrier even though she’s 6 pounds and it says minimum 8 pounds. She did fine (sleep sleep sleep) and it makes life a lot cosier and easier to manage with a 2 year old.

Daphne’s life is all about eating, sleeping and pooping, and she is good at all three. She is starting to wake up sometimes for her meals- about every 3 hours. She grunts and wiggles now as she gets hungry.

One month update!

Last time around, we took monthly pictures with Amelia’s monkey for reference. This time we’ll use a doll that our new neighbor Isabella (age 4) gave to Daphne.

She’s home!

Daphne came home on Saturday after I spent a night with her at the hospital. Here is Amelia kissing Daphne’s foot during their first meeting, when dropping me off for the night.

We are having a great time together. Amelia is full of kisses for her little sister, and we love to watch Amelia carry her step stool around so she can stand on it to see Daphne. Daphne mostly sleeps all the time. If she lets out a little grunt or squeak, Amelia says “I hear her!” and points to her ear. And she likes to sing the two lullabyes that she knows when she sees Daphne sleeping.

We laugh that Amelia says “Daphne” but doesn’t say her own full name yet, she’s still “Yaya”. Though she did correct me once last week when I called her “Yaya” and she said “Melia” back to me.

Site changes coming

Going to be messing with the blog this week, maybe. Gotta get a picture of Daphne in the upper corner and update Amelia’s. Might see some color changes, too.
