The Amelia and Daphne Blog

She’s Definitely Two.

Amelia has figured out how to stall, mostly with bedtime. Just about coinciding with her birthday, she began challenging us by changing her mind when she is making choices. We are good about sticking with her first choice no matter how much she fusses. I hope she notices soon.

The most common situation is that we are reading books downstairs before bed time. She will ask to take a book up, then on the way upstairs start crying to leave the book downstairs, you leave it, then she gets to her bedroom and cries for the book. Now the book goes with the first request, either to leave it or bring it.

She likes certain things in certain places. The funniest one is that she “makes her crib” after her nap or when she gets up in the morning. All of the books, except for Buzzy Bee, have to get put back on the table (She stacks them and says “Put books back please.”). Then yellow blankie, baby, lambie, and Buzzy Bee get placed at one end of the crib and pink blankie comes out with her. If you even try to switch pink and yellow blankies, she asks for pink and puts back yellow.

Her imagination is really growing. Ethan brought home a Snoopy from a benefits fair, and Amelia has full conversations with him. They dance and she tells him things that she is cooking in her kitchen and narrates her life to him in three minute bits.

Amelia gets one piece of Halloween Candy after dinner. We really enjoyed watching her work on a Tootsie Roll for 13 minutes tonight after dinner. Ethan had to get it off her teeth for her a couple times.
