Daphne’s evening

We worked on a little stair descending tonight.

And rolling around with Crackle.  She usually scrambles over him on her tummy and then rolls.  Today she found a way off backwards.

You can sort of see her eyes here.  They’re a dark hazel and might stay that way.  A more diffuse brown has condensed into a stary pattern around her pupil.  There is a dark blue-gray ring around the outside.

This is my favorite- a goodnight kiss from her big sister.  Night-night Daphne!

Playtime with Crystal

Crystal came over to watch Amelia & Daphne Friday night. Crystal took some great pictures of her and Amelia.

(Yes, that’s Amelia’s Yoga outfit).

Child’s Pose

Getting ready for dinner out Friday night, I was downstairs with the girls and Allison was upstairs getting ready. Amelia opened the DVD player in the family room and found the yoga DVD Allison had used the day before.

“I want to watch yoga.”

I said that was fine. Finished folding laundry and took it upstairs. When I came down I found this:

Amelia was following Kathy Smith’s instructions pretty well. Here Kathy is telling the audience (in this case, a 2-year-old),

“Hold your arms perpendicular to the ground and touch your left ear to your left shoulder…”

Amelia was doing a great job! I watched her for a few seconds before snagging this picture. She was riveted to the TV, following directions.

Later she did Downward Dog.

A trip to the lake

Amelia took two boat rides. The first was with Captain/Fisherman (Uncle) Bobby and Aunt Lynda.

The second was on Grandpa’s big boat. Amelia enjoyed herself and a long game of eye-spy. Then she couldn’t keep her eyes open and took a nice nap.

I enjoyed holding my sleeping girl very much too!

We made homemade lasagna like we had in Italy (bechamel + ragu, no mozzarella). Amelia sprinkled flour on each noodle that Bebe made, so they wouldn’t stick together.

She also sprinkled parmesan cheese on each layer. We managed to keep the hot pepper flakes she was playing with out of the pasta.  She was a very good helper in the kitchen and with loading the washing machine with towels!

Sorry there aren’t any Daphne shots.  We spent the weekend with her five weeks younger cousin Jackson, and didn’t manage to take a single photo of them together.  Daphne really enjoyed playing with everyone, swinging on the swing, a swim with her mom (and a little boat ride with Uncle Bobby too!), and grabbing Uncle Bobby’s moustache.

Amelia told this story at dinner

M-E-L-I-A went for a walk and it was coming towardsing and towardsing and towardsing and towardsing and still and coming to mama

And the rain was coming down and down and down and down and the spider was out and out and out and the fly and they got rain in their eye.

(She spells her name without the first “A”)

I’m holding it gently, gently, gently mama.

Amelia and I went to the park tonight because 1) It was beautiful outside, 2) Daphne was asleep, and 3) Ethan wanted to read Harry Potter.
I was feeling pretty good about skipping running tonight since we walked.  Until we ended up at the castle park and the ice cream truck showed up. Amelia got a Dora Ice (no cream, it’s banana and strawberry flavored frozen stuff) and I got a sundae cone.

We have a rule, modeled after Emma, that Amelia can’t have gum until she’s 5. Except the Dora Ice came with gumball eyes.

She’s doing a good imitation of her ice here. She was on her way to showing me her gum. But this picture is funnier.  She ended up swallowing each piece of gum after a while.
Then! We found a robin’s eggshell in only two pieces. We talked through how a bird gets out of the shell several times.  Here is the small top half in her hand.

She said she could hold it the whole way home so gently so she could show it to Daddy and then take it to share with her class tomorrow. She held it in her hat, but this is what it looked like when we got home.

We had such a nice time.  Too bad it isn’t 80 degrees and low humidity every day in the summer.

Wow, that’s far!

Daph and I were playing on the floor in her room after her bath tonight. She started in the middle, rolled all the way into the closet, then rolled all the way across the room. I took this picture from in front of the closet.

She did stop to briefly inspect the diaper genie. The reward that you can’t see on her other side is three plastic cups. She hasn’t been rolling as much recently, but tonight she made up for that.

PS Daphne is 24.4, that’s twenty-four point four, pounds today! I think babies are supposed to triple their birth weight by age 1. Ummm, she was 5 pounds. (OK I’m sort of cheating because she was early.)  Coincidentally, that is exactly what Amelia weighed at her one year checkup.  Daph hasn’t had her one year check up yet, just some thrush to get looked at today.

Sleepy Daphne

Sleepy Daphne needed to go back to bed. The poor girl sprouted a couple millimeters on a tooth today, and didn’t get an afternoon nap. Which means she can’t stay awake past 6 or 6:30 pm. Which means she wakes up at 4 or 4:30 am! (Yes, it’s happened twice recently.) So, we put her to sleep after a quick dinner and wake her up after an hour or two. Tonight she really had a hard time waking up. She sat up and stood and played for maybe 15 minutes, and was done, ready to go back to bed.

Visit to Gigi & Giffer’s house!

We went to visit the girls’ great grandparents- Gigi & Giffer this weekend. Gigi runs a second hand store -Encore- where we found a Garfield branded “Go Fish” game for 25 cents, as in “Giffer, do you have an Odie?”  Ethan and I were just talking about how Amelia could probably play that game, and she proved to be pretty good at it!

We went to the Dining Room for dinner on Saturday and Amelia (borrowed) and Gigi wore their finest beads.

Amelia also got a little two-compartment coin purse at Encore, and has something like 4 dimes and 5 pennies inside.  She counted and sorted her money (one cent each- we’re working on dimes = 10 but it’ll be a while) at the table, on the potty, on the floor, in the car.

Amelia and I went over to a nearby school playground this morning.  I was really impressed at some new climbing tricks.  She got all the way to the top of this one.

Pretty girl in a fast car!  (There must have been a well timed breeze.)

Daphne loves the water.  We turned on the sprinkler to about one foot height and the girls played in the water with cups & toys.  Amelia didn’t really have much to do with the sprinkler without a lot of encouragement, but Daphne just loved it.

This one is just after she finally got her hat off!

That girl charmed everyone with her smiles and smiles and smiles, and a little eating along the way.  She eats anything and everything with the noisiest enthusiasm- peas, diced and shredded carrots, cornish hen, cheese, waffle, toast with blackberry jam, bacon, cake, a little tuna, pumpernickle bread, pineapple, strawberries, and probably a few things I am not remembering.

She is working on her fifth tooth (another top one-she’s doing this backwards) and ,makes that sound where you rub your finger back and forth (up and down) over your lips while you talk.  Eh, you’re trying it out right now, aren’t you?  There should be a name for that sound!

Thanks for such a nice weekend Gigi & Giffer!
