The Amelia and Daphne Blog

I love this pic!

Daphne steals our glasses all the time. It is one of the things she loves to do. She tries to put them on herself, and them back on me.

A trip to the park

We met Catriona and her mom at the park this morning. When Catriona arrived, she and Amelia ran several laps around the park.  They ate their bananas in about 30 seconds, they earned them!

I asked Melissa if Catriona would want a b-a-n-a-n-a?  And Amelia said “Can I have a banana?”!
When there are only two swings, you need to figure something out so that everyone can swing!

Catriona was in the other swing (you can see her hair in the top right of this pic) and Daphne took a turn with her, too.  Poor Daphne had that hand in her mouth all day, working on one of her molars.

A friend!

Friend of Tawbubby Grant and his parents came to visit last weekend.  Amelia and Grant are enjoying a junk food snack of chips and juice boxes.  What you don’t see are all the Cheetoes they ate.  A bunch of guys were having a fantasy football draft in the other room, and we couldn’t really let them eat chips and not the kids, right?

Grant was a lot of fun. He is a great talker- he can pronounce anything!  He was fearless in the pool, too.  He didn’t mind going under water.

See what gym bus can do for you!

A gym bus comes to Amelia’s daycare on Fridays. It is outfitted with all sorts of things to climb on, over, up, jump, tumble, etc. I wonder if she got this brave on gym bus? Because all of the sudden she started jumping off the bed, and it is almost as tall as herself!

1…2…

…3!!!

You won’t catch me jumping off a 5′ 5″ platform anytime soon, unless there is water underneath me.  I put the pillow there, she didn’t, and she jumped several times before the pillow was there.
(If you’re keen, you’ll notice I picked up her bathing suit and water shoes for the first picture, which was actually taken second. Anyway, makes the sequence better to see the take off.)

She also learned to go down the stairs by putting only one foot on each step, and now has progressed to trying to skip steps.  She’s not very good at that-her legs are allllmost as long as the three step distance- but it is a lot of fun.

Daphne’s been a bit under the weather this week, we’re not really sure of the cause.  She’s not goopy or anything.  But, she seems to be feeling mostly better.  And luckily she’s a fairly easy sick kid.

We’re home for five days while the girls’ school gets ready for the new year.  We will surely have lots of pictures and stories for you!

My beautiful girls

I went into the office for a minute and Amelia called “Mama, come see your beautiful girls while I’m laying next to Daphne!”  Crackle is a comfortable pillow.

A little blurry (and now grainy from Picasa’s ’sharpen’ function) but I like this one.

Both girls were exhausted and fell asleep within one minute of getting into their beds.

The stealth, creative, cheese-loving Amelia

Can you find Amelia?

She hid for a long time waiting for her Daddy to come and not be able to find her.

She constructed a very elaborate playground for her sister and friends (the Flynns) and explained each component to me. Each girl had her own slide.

Amelia was in charge of making salads tonight, and I made the mistake of walking back to the kitchen while she was sprinkling a little cheese on each.

Daphne is uncharacteristically fussy, and for some reason I stuck my finger in her mouth tonight and found two new teeth (that I wasn’t looking for). Sharp little buggers. She’s been up once already since she went to bed for the night. Time for us to get to bed incase she has a tough night. She’s been good to us so far, Amelia was awake at night for probably each tooth she got.

Some fun at the pool

Friends of Tawbubby at the pool! We went to the pool with all of the (female) Flynns today. Here is a row of sticky trouble! Three rainbow pops and one strawberry shortcake.

I think it’s interesting that they sat in order of age. I guess it was coincidence, but I wonder.

Little D was in her boat, and will have to wait for next summer to have her own ice cream.

Yes, she’s wearing her sister’s bikini. Size 3T. It was a little loose but not that much.

On that note, she had her one year checkup yesterday and they said she is 75th percentile for height and 95th for weight, not 40th percentile for height and 95th for weight that we were told two weeks ago! She’s oval, not square, thank you very much.

Great sister story we heard tonight

We went to new school year orientation at the girls’ daycare tonight and heard this story.   The infant room (Daphne’s room)  is separated from the Red Room (Amelia’s room) by the ball pit.  The ball pit has glass windows on the doors.

The infants, including Daphne, were in the ball pit a couple weeks ago.  Amelia happened to notice Daphne was in the ball pit and was at the glass door, watching. Daphne was sitting on the floor and rolled back to laying down.  Amelia got really upset when Daphne rolled from sitting to laying and started crying through the glass:

“Can somebody please help my Daphne?  She fell over and she needs help!”   She is the sweetest, best big sister.  She really loves her little sister.  Her teacher came into the ball pit and said “Can you please help Daphne, Amelia is going to cry”.

The big event of the weekend…

Still have the rest of today, but I bet this will be the highlight!
Daphne pulling up.

We were hanging out in Amelia’s room, and playing with the stuffed animals in the bench.  This was something good for her to get a grip on and she just did it!

Tunnel fun

Chef Daphne! She couldn’t figure how to get this one off since the brim is close to her head.

The girls had a lot of fun with tunnels last night. It was a whole new world for Daphne.

Amelia liked crawling in with Daphne and playing peek-a-boo with her.

Daphne enjoyed trying to find Amelia, too.  She could just roll the tunnel a little bit to help herself sit upright again.

Daphne played her own peek-a-boo while sitting in the (vertical) tunnel and bouncing it up and down.
