Pancake Party
It’s been a while. If you can imagine, we forgot our camera when we went to the lake last weekend for Easter.
Amelia went cold turkey into underwear over night last night. She was dry in the morning so we had a chocolate chip pancake with rainbow sprinkles party!
She has a new Monkey nightlight, new Days of the Week-Disney princess underwear, and we set her alarm for 4am for a trip to the restroom. She slept through it, but we didn’t. That girl sleeps solidly. We can’t even wake her when we go to bed, she doesn’t stir. Maybe it will be the only dry night for a long time, but let’s keep our fingers crossed. She was soooooo proud this morning. Hooray for Amelia!
Daphne also enjoyed the rainbow sprinkles.
There were many “please”es with her holding out her empty plate for more. There were even sprinkles in her diaper when I changed it later!
Daphne liked this hat today. She played peek-a-boo with it in front of her face.
Daphne finally learned “Mama”. Maybe a week ago it came out in full force. Usually when she wants me and can’t get to me. It is so much better than the fuss sound that used to be my name. She also loves the word “bubble” and sings the “e-i-e-i-o” during Old McDonald. She loves singing and music, maybe more than Amelia did at the same age. She especially loves when Amelia sings to her. Her face just glows at Amelia, who she increasingly calls “A-ya-ya”, rather than straight “ya-ya”.
She likes to put a bag or purse over her arm and wave and say “Bye-Bye”. She’s starting to climb the steps standing up. She has a couple phrases of two words together. Her favorite is “Bye bye da-da”. She likes to answer the phone, and to throw things into the trash. I found our phone in the trash, by pushing the pager button and following the ‘beep’, when it went missing last week.
We think she’s allergic to cinnamon, and that is a problem in a family of cinnamon lovers. Wheat, we are dealing with that. Milk, alright there is plenty of soy out there. But cinnamon??? Seriously, she is sooo much better without wheat and milk. Her congestion is gone. I was very happy to see her favorite gluten-free cookie don’t have cinnamon, when my taste buds thought it would be on the ingredient list.
We have a little spring fever. Amelia helped me plant two blueberry bushes tonight. She liked rocking back and forth on the pitchfork.
She also did a some shoveling, and then said “Mama, I’m so tired I might need to lay down right here!” She watered them at the end, too.
She was a great help. Maybe she needs some gardening shoes.
She’s a kid who likes to know the rules. And one who likes candy. She is much easier to deal with since we initiated our new “Treats only on Saturdays” rule. She doesn’t even ask now, like she did every other night since Valentine’s Day. She likes knowing she will get a treat on Saturdays. And she’s o.k., as long as she knows the rule. Today she got (o.k., chocolate chip pancakes and) a treat from her Easter basket. She asked me if she could eat a particular Easter basket treat “next Saturday”.
Comments are off for this postHappy St. Patrick’s Day
When I woke up Amelia this morning with a “Happy St. Patrick’s Day, Amelia!”
She responded, “Top o’ the morning to you, mama!”
Because that is how you say hi to a leprechaun.
Tonight I went outside with her to ride her bike after dinner. I asked her about how a leaf got in her hair and she said “Oh, it’s from when we were on the soccer field.” It started a whole conversation about a St. Patricks Day performance they had today. She was very puzzled about what she saw.
Mama: What did you do on the soccer field?
Amelia: We were playing instruments. It was like a flute, but not a flute, and had strings. And some people were playing the instruments. But, they were mans, but they didn’t look like mans? They wore skirts and tights. (Puzzled expression)
Mama: What color were their tights?
Amelia: One was red and white, the others were brown and black I think. They told us about St. Patrick’s Day. They sounded like this ‘Oooo’ (growly, in a low pitched voice), not like this ‘Ahhh’ (in a higher pitched voice).
Mama: Did they talk like Mr. Ronan or like us?
Amelia: They talked like us. And they didn’t look like ladies but they were ladies because they had ponytails. Right there. (And she pointed to the middle of the top of her head)
Mama: Did they have beards like Mr. Mike?
Amelia: No, it was just right there (pointing to her chin), not everywhere.
I showed her a picture of a bagpiper from Google and she said “Yep, it was that.” And I showed her a video of bagpiping, and she said “Yep it was that, but different people.”

Bebe brought a new tricycle for Daphne, a gift from Tawbubby cousins, Katie & Lexi. Daphne was barreling towards bed by the time this photo was snapped, so Amelia kicked the tires for her. Such a helpful big sister…
Thanks!
Birthday Party
A morning downpour didn’t stop the party for Amelia’s pal Jack’s 3rd birthday. It was really everything you need from a 3-year shindig. Eats, cake, clown, and Pony!
Amelia loved the ride on “Nutmeg”.
Daphne was a little less sure, but was willing to sit for a minute or so.
“Snaps the Clown” painted a picture of Amelia’s favorite monster…
The rain stayed away almost the entire party, but left enough water for the occasional puddle-gazing.
Romp and Roll Walk!
The girls celebrated Daphne’s new mobility at Romp and Roll Friday night.
Amelia was hounded by the paparazzi. This is one of ten photos I took while she insisted that taking pictures was “against the rules”. She even emphatically pointed to the invisible rules written on the wall beside her.
Bebe’s birthday
We went to the lake this weekend to celebrate Bebe’s birthday. We all loved the cake: banana, chocolate chip, caramel. Especially Amelia. She told us many times this weekend how much she loves chocolate.
Daphne walked everywhere.
This afternoon we took a short walk down the road. She actually held our hands for most of that, but enjoyed it of course. She got good at walking very quickly. She has several scrapes and bruises on her face, badges of honor I suppose. We don’t even know how she gets most of them.
She hasn’t slept through the night, I think since she started walking. Finally this weekend she seems to be back to normal. She was very excited to learn to walk.
That face.
Sweater compliments of her Aunt Melissa. The colors are perfect for Amelia.
On the way home, Amelia thought she saw a “bald beagle” flying above the truck. “What’s a bald beagle, Amelia?” She said “It’s a bird.” (Not a dog.)
