Thank yous

Coming soon to a mailbox near you…here is Daphne working diligently on her birthday present thank you notes!  She and I made a pile of (you guessed it) Red Birthday Cake cards.  Most of them have three red candles glued to the card.

A stray picture that makes me laugh.  The girls constructed a tent community on Saturday.  Daphne’s tent was the real tent, and Amelia’s was the table covered with the sheet.  They linked their tents with the tunnel.

The great stories for today.  Daphne spent much of the weekend in underpants.  Being able to wear them has become important to her.  Today Daphne had two potty successes (hip-hip-hooray!), which is two more than most days.  She’s figuring it out.  Then at bed time, Amelia said “I have an idea, I bet I could read ‘A Fly Went By’!”.  OK, sounds good to me.  She read the first 21 pages and we’ll finish the rest tomorrow.  Wow, a stunner from both of them today, really.

Soccer

The girls are signed up for YMCA soccer this fall.  We are excited for tired, sweaty kids.  Daphne is signed up for the “Pee-Wee” team of 3-year olds.  Amelia’s in the Pre-K group.

This kid in a soccer uniform just makes me giggle.  She is sooooooooo cute!

She’s #20, in the home team colors.  The socks are way too big on her, we might try to find a smaller pair but the season is only 8 saturdays long.  Might not be worth it.  We didn’t get shin guards yet, either, so we’ll have to see how big those are- maybe to her armpits?

Amelia’s #5, in the away (?) colors here, trying to score against our neighbor.  Look at that footwork!

Happy Birthday Song

We’ve been trying for a week to get this uploaded, and haven’t been able to.

Daphne’s Aunt Mel made a great birthday video for the new three-year-old. You can access it here.

Video (16MB)

Melissa writes:

people might want to “save as” and view from their computer if they have a slow connection and the video suddenly stops mid stream.

Sweet sisters

I caught these sisters is a sweet hug yesterday morning at the farmers’ market.

IMG_5738

The girls went shopping with $1 each, in Daphne’s red purses.  They chose 2 chocolate chip cookies for $1.20.

Amelia wore her cinderella dress, and halfway through the market said to me “I heard two people talking about my dress!”

This morning, all by themselves, Amelia showed Daphne how to play the tea party game.  They had fun and we enjoyed listening to their conversation.

Daphne’s birthday

Daphne had a great birthday weekend.  Here is her new dress & hat from Aunt Penny and Uncle Dave, from the HuxleyWuxley line (homemade by Penny).  It is gorgeous!  She opened this present and had to put it on immediately.

Aunt Cheri gave Daphne a card with a musical envelope- Daphne loves it!  She opens and closes the little flap to hear the music over and over again.

Bebe came by with a big bouquet of love!!  The balloons are attached to her dining room chair, haven’t drooped yet!

IMG_5629

On Daphne’s birthday, we had a pizza party with our family and friends. Even Grandma, Grannie and Grampy (and two of their friends!) came to the party. The girls are on videochat with them for a fiber optic rendition of Happy Birthday!

On Saturday morning, Daphne had a part with some of her friends from school.  They were a hoot!  Three year olds are a lot of fun to entertain.

Ethan made his famous Spaghetti Monsters for the Red Party.  They also had watermelon, red grapes, strawberry milk, and red velvet cupcakes.

It is good to have Amelia around to read a book when everyone gets tired of bouncing.  She was a great big sister.

Happy Birthday Daphne!

Here’s the birthday girl.

I chose this photo for three reasons:

1) We have an awesome 5-year old boy neighbor who brought party hats from his house AND made Daphne a necklace (not in photo, after he came over to see how old she was so he could make a foam “3″ for it);

2) Stella somehow makes it into many of our birthday photos, and we love that;

and

3) Daphne loved her cake and was caught here stealing her sister’s.

Carwash

I had some great helpers tonight to get our vehicles clean.  Daphne is rinsing the license plate with her little bucket.

IMG_5618

Amelia is almost tall enough to do the car by herself!  She actually did a lot of the washing work, wherever she could reach.

IMG_5608

Daphne was probably in the back seat of the car at this point.  They both got in and waited for me to spray down the car, to see what it was like.  Daphne flinched at the water hitting the window, and then laughed and laughed.

Had a lull in activity after my car was cleaned and while we waited for Ethan to come home.  This reminds me of playing in my grandma’s laundry tubs when we were little!

Ah, summer!

Where’s my cake?

Six more days till this kid is three.

IMG_5604

Daphne made the red cake art on Tuesday with her occupational therapist, for their last visit (they end at age 3).  She carries it around the house every night, and shows it to everyone.   If she can’t find it, she asks us “Where’s my cake?”   Then yesterday, her class August newsletter came home with her birthday listed for this month.  I showed it to her and she was soooo excited!  She spent a good bit of last night walking around with both papers and talking about her birthday.

IMG_5603

This morning she told me she picked out the “D” and “A” magnets herself, too!  And her favorite “O”, and the almost-the-same “G”.
