Amelia’s race

She ran (sometimes) a one mile kids race this morning.  We had so much fun!

Before.  A cold morning necessitates a crown hat.

After, with her medal!

Her favorite and biggest fan! No, I’m not talking about Elmo.

Amelia’s floating and static experiments

We did two more experiments from her science kit.  In this one, she split a piece of clay as evenly as she could.  She shaped one piece into a ball and one piece into a boat.  Then tested to see which one floated!

This one was super cool.  The main experiment is to cut up confetti, rub a plastic rod on a wool scarf, and make the confetti stick to it through static electricity.  That was neat, kind of like some magnetic desk toys I have seen.  The better “modification” was to try salt and pepper.  The pepper flew up to the plastic rod, and the salt didn’t.  She did this one many times.  She also liked checking for static in her hair.

Some fine writing and art

This is an apology Daphne wrote for a teacher she, well, kicked.  Blame it on this week’s albuterol treatments for her gunky cold. Can you image that?  I can’t either except she’s been much more of a bear than a snuggle bear this week.   Anyway, it’s great writing!  The teacher who helped her write it only held her elbow.  She didn’t hold her hand at all.

Amelia made an awesome kite!

And a badge for “uniform” day during “U” week.

The girls’ new room

It’s cheerful!

You probably remember Amelia wanted the room painted black, so she could sleep.  Second choice was “like outside”.  So we painted the room the same color as her (now) old room.  One wall you can’t see is light blue, that’s their sky.  There is a big wall sticker tree coming, and we will move the flowers from the wall on Amelia’s old room to their new one.

This room is big, and has a bathroom inside that they can share.  My favorite part was when Daphne pulled down her pants to try on her “bed skirt”.  She didn’t know what that was!  Hers is red, of course.  Amelia’s is pink.  They have purple, pink, red and light aqua sheets to mix and match.  Daphne’s using very old mattresses from her great Grandma’s house.  She can’t climb up onto new ones without a step stool!

We just finished reading Belinda Begins Ballet before I took the picture above.  Daphne is pointing her foot at the sky, like Belinda.  Amelia is dancing, like always.

This came home from school last week.  Amelia made her own money!  Keep going, girl, we could really use it!

Awesomeness

We got the kids on the street to clean up four flower pots full of sweet gum balls from our yard, and then almost three grocery bags full of pinecones from our neighbors yard.

They also transplanted a line of ornamental grass from my yard to my neighbor’s. One kid (9 or 10 years old) asked if there was anything else she could help with, and I handed her a rake. She made a nice pile of pine needles for me.
That is awesomeness.
So is this.

Static-y, happy girls in the moonbounce.

The outfits and stories this girl puts together

This picture reminds me of Johnny Depp in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Amelia put a skirt from her Aunt Melissa on her head, inside her birthday crown.  And of course accessorized her dress beautifully.

Then she danced around and told us a really detailed, long story with interpretive dance.  When more people were watching, her arms went higher (= pay attention to me!!!).

At the end, she sang and danced to this song she made up herself:

Tap tap tap on the selfish door

Tap tap tap on the selfish door

Tap tap tap on the selfish door

But there was nobody there.

I didn’t know who was in there

Tap tap tap was in there

Tap tap tap, tap tap tap,

tap tap tap was in there.

And a few more lines complete with a rousing broadway finish.
