Happy Halloween!

On Friday, Amelia had to wear her halloween costume to school.  Here’s the Dalmation hugging her Fire Chief goodbye at the bus stop.

The kindergartners at Amelia’s school paraded for the rest of the kids.  Daphne and I went to watch and Daphne even got to join in! Daphne is the (Irish) fire chief – insisted on that tshirt for the parade.

Here they are standing in front of the kindergarten pumpkin patch.

Daphne had a parade at her preschool in the afternoon on Friday.

Spoilers

I taught Amelia about spoilers this week. Allison is reading Charlotte’s Web to them and Amelia peeked ahead to see what Charlottle (Spoiler alert!) would write next in her webbing, then told Daphne. I explained to her about why it’s not nice to spoil the ending of a story for someone.

Me: There was a movie I really wanted to see but never did, because I knew the ending.
Amelia: What movie?”
Me: I… it… it was called Presumed Innocent. You’ve never heard of it. It doesn’t matter

I think she got it. Hard to say. Sometimes she gets it and sometimes she just understands that whatever I’m talking about is Important and she just nods gravely.

It’s funny.

Shrinky Dinks

Amelia and I did some shrinky dinks today. Amelia got them from a friend for her birthday. I remember them being fun.  But, those things are wayyyy cooler than I remembered.

She colored a bunch, I cut them out, we baked them.   They shrank, curled, shrank, flattened.  Immediately “Let’s do some more!” and she ran back to color another batch.

Here are the girls, watching the dinks… shrink. (?)

Daphne did one when she got home, but wasn’t in to it as much.  Give her a year. : )

This loose tooth is driving us crazy

Amelia used to work at her loose teeth.  She has four loose teeth right now, including that top middle one.  It’s been half-falling out of her mouth for a week and a half, and it’s still there.

C’mon.  Pony up and pull that tooth out!

Changing the baby

Daphne loves to play mamma-baby with Amelia or by herself.  The other night, she changed the baby.

I like how she grabbed both of the baby’s ankles, hoisted the up in the air, just like we did.

Roller girls

Amelia had a roller skating party for her birthday.

The rink is straight out of the 70s…if they’ve updated, it was with carpet made in the 70s…which is part of the charm.  I got scolded over the microphone for stopping to take that picture.  The DJ was on the ball, catching all the rules violators.  No stopping to look in the mirror, no cell phones, no stopping to talk on the side, if you want to take a picture you must move toward the center of the floor, etc.  And then they have races!  Let’s talk about what is dangerous to a couple of inline speedster teenage boys racing around cones (they were really good, actually).

Amelia requested brownies and cookies with rainbow M&Ms instead of a cake for her party.

They had sock races.  Daphne went out for her age group and ran around and around, not really sure where the start line was, just enjoying her freedom.  The woman on the microphone said “Little girl in the red shirt…” and Daphne just kept on running.

Here’s her prize.

For being sooooo cute, for being in the 3-5 category, and probably for running around like crazy.

She enjoyed the motorcycle arcade game, too.  This girl knows how to ride.

Grannie and Grampy visited for the weekend.  Three out of four looking at the camera isn’t bad.

We went to the play Ferdinand the Bull yesterday.  It was fun.  Grampy must have been pleasantly surprised at all of the swine jokes by Ferdinand’s friend Cochina, and cracked a few of his own.

Grannie brought cupcakes for the girls to decorate with red and purple sprinkles. Conveniently, Amelia is taking this picture to school tomorrow for her letter “C” homework.

Another highlight- Amelia’s very talented Aunt Penny made her this gorgeous dress for a present.  The buttons are from Amelia’s great grandmothers button box (covered to match the dress).

Sixth birthday is all over.  Amelia had her first in service day, and spent it at her after school program.  She had her 6 year checkup at the pediatrician this afternoon, and no shock, she’s holding at 95th percentile for height.  The nurse tested her vision at 20/15, hearing is perfect, and she got a flu shot.  Amelia announced she wants to be a doctor when she grows up.

Amelia’s 6th birthday

We squeezed in a little party tonight.  Amelia is whispering her wish to her class mascot Cuddly Dudley the penguin.

Amelia got to bring Cuddly Dudley home for her turn today.  Coincidence that it was her birthday.  We had to write a little story about him, and she read the other kids’ stories to Dudley while they shared goldfish crackers.
