Amelia’s Secrets of Space kit
We got started on the secrets of space kit with an experiment about why the moon glows. We had to move into the bathroom so we were in a dark room.
She said “We’re standing right here when we’re sleeping, and the sky is like here, and we’re looking at the moon sideways. And Santa lives on top at the North Pole so he can always see the moon.” We have some concepts to work on here…but there is still a lot of time before she is called for astronaut training.
Next, we get to make a constellation, a telescope, and turn a flashlight into a night vision flashlight!

Daphne only wanted rain boots (which she got Dec 18th because it snowed), and a Wonder Pets flyboat. She recited her letter to me:
“Dec. 6, 2010
Dear Santa,
I have been very good. I cleaned up my toys, raked the leaves, put napkins on the table and feed Cadbury. May I please have a flyboat, Santa? And some rainboots, please, Santa Claus. Thank you St. Nicholas. I love you, Daphne”)
We visited Santa on Dec. 23rd at the mall, and Amelia had to read her whole letter to him.
(Dec 6th, 2010
Dear Santa,
I have been good. I got green today on the behavior chart at school. I’ve been good to my sister. I helped hang the Christmas ornaments. And I helped set the table. Please cen I have a BopIt game, a movie it dose not matter which on it is at least a kid one. A big bouncy ball. My two front teeth. A present for my sister, she likes little einsteins. Cen I have a fa-la-la-la-la coaster please.
Love, Amelia.)
At “fa-la-la-la-la coaster” everyone says “a what?”. It’s a stone coaster that dropped and broke, it used to say “fa-la-la-la-la” on it. That item was a last minute addition she wrote on the bottom at the mall food court.
Here are a few presents we took pictures of…
Here’s the WonderPets fly boat and a very happy girl.
Amelia got Scrabble Flash game that is pretty cool. Five electronic tiles communicate to each other and there are three different games. I need to read how it works.
Also a cool marble run. Aunt Mel, that is Amelia’s new sandwich container catching the marbles.
This game is called Gobblet. It’s a variation on tic-tac-toe. You can put larger pieces over top of smaller ones, resulting in a change in color in a square. It is a neat change in strategy. Amelia embraces the different game.
Daphne plays old-school.
She got a Zhu-Zhu pet and wheel, and keeps getting the pet caught in her hair! I think I’ve unwound her hair three times now.
Daphne and Fafa are building with some cool wooden blocks with magnets inside.
Daphne also got a train table. We had to rearrange some furniture and she loves it! She slept with “Rosie” the purple engine for two nights and a naptime.

The girls got real haircuts. Not just a mom with a pair of scissors trim. Ethan decided a few weeks ago that Daphne would look great with a bob. He was right. They probably cut 5 inches off her hair.
Amelia got 2 or 3 inches cut off, but hers got curlier so it is up to her shoulders, too.

I went shopping for snow pants Tuesday night on the way home from work. That was supposed to ensure the forecast was wrong. Who needs snow pants in Richmond??
We got a few inches, enough for some fun. Daphne’s pants are 3T, but that is all I could find. She has to work to bend, they’re a little tight. Later in the winter we’ll have to only have one pair of pants on underneath, I guess. She calls them her puppy pants, for some reason. Maybe poppy? Maybe puffy?
Amelia pants are my victory. I bought cheap women’s size small, and in 45 minutes, cut and sewed them down to Amelia’s size. I’m pretty proud of that. It was those ($19) or the only pair of girls, which was a size 10 and $89.
Daphne’s joy is her new Red! boots. Those were our Christmas present to her, but we really couldn’t wait till next week since the snow came today.
Our neighbors thought to use their slide from their swingset as a sled. It was brilliant! Fast and could fit two people easily.
