Take your Daphne to work day!
Daphne went to VCU with me on Wednesday morning. She had a field trip downtown that we went to after spending some time at my office.
She really liked my windows. I like them too. I have a great view of all the undergraduate shenanigans in a main pedestrian thoroughfare….hula hooping, skate boarding, burrito buying, protesting, and the daily 4pm car towing caravan from the 4-6pm no parking lane on Main Street.
She enjoyed putting my shades up and down.
Her field trip was to a play, The BFG, at Theater IV, a children’s theater. We both really liked the play and our front row seats. It was pretty thrilling to sit so close to the play. Even when the scary giants were in the orchestra pit within arms reach! She had a little play mobile figurine she’s been calling “Sophie”, after the heroine in The BFG. She held Sophie inside her field trip tshirt to protect her in the scary parts.
This is what was on the curtain while people were being seated…a line from the first chapter of the book.
On the way back to her preschool, we stopped to eat lunch with Amelia at her elementary school! That was a big treat for all of us. The girls both had “snozzcumbers” in their lunches, the food The BFG eats.
Amelia gets to go with her daddy and her kindergarten class next week.

The TV-Book-Music-inator!
She’s a young multi-tasker and product developer…here’s her newest idea. Probably from watching Phinneas and Ferb.
She started air quoting, after I turned off the video. Cracks me up.

I went to Daphne’s preschool class Valentine’s party this afternoon, and grabbed Amelia from next door to join the fun. These girls love each other, we are so lucky. Amelia is wearing Daphne’s clothes, since Daphne loves red and has so much of it. They’re on the slide, outside, after the party.

I made these cookies for Ethan back in 1995…back when I was living in College Station, Texas, and he was in State College, PA. I sent them in a box I made all beautiful, too.
So, peppermint sugar cookies…here’s Daphne getting one out of the cutter.
Baked and dipped halfway in chocolate. They’re yummy!

Amelia went Valentine crazy this year. She did valentines for 20 classmates, 30 after-school mates, and at least 5 for every one of us. This girl has a huge amount of love in her heart and many ways to express it. I hope you can tolerate this post…it’s to preserve our memories…
This bag came home full, after she had already secreted away several upstairs. The bag says “To: My hole Fammle Love: Amelia” The back says “With my loving hart, I give this gift to you!”
For Daphne, complete with swiveling arrow- “This is a h(e)art puppet for you! It will remind you of my heart giving love to you, ca(u)se I love you!”
Printed from the computer and written/decorated: “Happy Valentine’s Day Daphne! I L♥VE you so much, I wish I could be with you always! Love Amelia”
“To Daphne: I know you love red so I give you this.–>(pointing to red rose) I love (you) so much Happy Valentines Day! Love Amelia”
For her daddy, she wrote: “Daddy, I saved the best present for you –> Love–> I love you!”
For her mommy, she wrote: “When my hart is blue, I’m sad, But when my hart is red, I’m happy! I love you!”
For Cadbury: “This is a love print for Cad! Love Amelia”
Yes. All from this kid.
Kids’ love of ‘FunDip” candy is universal. We made sure to brush teeth well before bed.

Episode 2. I got a cipher wheel for Amelia off the internet. Some kids spy website where they didn’t even make an effort to include Q or J. Kind of strange.
Anyway, Amelia wrote a Valentine poem. I wrote it down for her with a blank line for each letter she had to translate to code. Then she wrote the coded verse on a Valentine.
She had to work pretty hard. It’s fun to watch her brain. The finished Valentine, sent with a “clue” of U = A, and the cipher wheel. If you zoom in, maybe you can figure it out. ; )
Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Dozer is sweet,
and so are you!
(Dozer is Mr. Chris’ dog).

Daphne got new firefighter boots from her great Aunt Cheri. What a happy girl she was tonight! Well, she usually is, but she was yelping with excitement when she opened these. She wore them for a while before her bath. This picture is after her bath, in pajamas and fire fighter outfit, brushing her hair. I love the contrast of the outfit and the fuzzy pink mirror.

The kids set up a lemonade stand to snag guests on their way into our neighbor’s house. $0.25 a cup, for some delicious pink lemonade.
I would buy lemonade from that cute cashier anytime. The kids made maybe $8!! They’re going to buy girl scout cookies and have a kid cookie party. They will visit the hula hooper (above) in the purple shirt when her girl scout troop is selling cookies at the grocery store in a few weeks so they can make the purchase.
Seemed most folks had a $1 bill but not a quarter, and told the kids to keep the change. Good price point to encourage generosity in tipping! There was also much drinking of the potential profits by the kids.

Amelia learned how to make secret invisible messages in her science kit, and sent one to Mr. Chris.
She got this letter in the mail from Mr. Chris, in response to her “invisible ink” message.
She figured out she could hold it up to the window to read through the paper. I had to ask her some questions about how reflections look for her to get the idea to read the letter in the mirror.
