Amelia is Uno crazy!

This kid LOVES games.  She learned Uno in her afterschool program.  But not with all the rules, apparently.  Yesterday morning I taught her all of them (you can put down a red 6 and a green 6 together), and strategy to get rid of the high point cards early.  She was a bit upset at our first game when I was beating her by a lot.  That was the only one.  The kid can play.  She plans out her moves and series of cards.

I accept the disadvantage of her playing behind a book because it is hard for her to hold all her cards.  So I can’t always call her on forgetting an “Uno!”.

She started saying “dos” herself, when she draws a card after having “Uno!” without being able to go out.  She loves the ultimate triumph of going out with a Draw 4 Wild.

We played while Daphne had gymnastics this morning.  She is learning the vocabulary of taunting her opponent, and said “Mama, you’re going up!”.  No, no.  Amelia, it’s “You’re going down!”.  She has trouble looking very threatening while saying that one.  She can’t get the smile off her face.  And she might really think chanting “lose, lose, lose, lose, lose” while I deal the cards is helping her.

Then she told Daphne that she “killed me in Uno”.  Daphne got upset, and ordered “Don’t kill my mama, Amelia.”.

My revenge is making her add up the scores.  We play to 500, so it is some pretty good numbers she is adding up.  She can carry the 1 by herself now.  I don’t mind losing when she adds up the points and uses her Giant Pencil.

I think I’ve played 8 hours of Uno with her this weekend.  I am sure we will play a couple more.

Have to say I don’t like the modern card deck.  I miss the text words for Draw 2, Skip, and Reverse.
